Charleston Area Beaches
It may be September, but in the South summer isn’t over yet! If you’re in the Charleston area and enjoy spending your vacation time relaxing in the sand, or if you’re looking for a great day activity before heading downtown to enjoy the great food and drinks, look no further than Sullivan’s or Folly Beach. Spend the day sunbathing at Sullivan’s Beach, located on the Atlantic Ocean, or enjoy your time out at Folly Beach, the closest beach to downtown Charleston and a great spot to catch some rays or explore the pier stretching 1,000 feet into the water. A quick 30 minute drive out to the barrier islands can make you feel a world away from the bustling streets of downtown and the quaint shops of King Street.
Beach Eats
Whether you chose to spend your day on Folly or Sullivan’s, rest assured that your lunch time options are in good hands. For some mid-day eating at Sullivan’s, take a seat over at Poe’s Tavern to embrace the American cuisine and decor which is dedicated to the author Edgar Allen Poe. Poe used to reside on Sullivan’s Island in the early-mid 1800s and the Tavern notes, “... we’re proud to know that he walked the same streets and enjoyed the sights and sounds we all admire about Sullivan’s Island”. The Charleston area is home to some of the nation’s best cuisine of all varieties. Also located on Sullivan’s Island is Pier 22 Sushi, a top-grade Japanese restaurant owned by Brannon Florie and Renee Florie. The husband and wife also opened The Rarebit, which we mentioned in part 1 of this blog series of Downtown Charleston. If you found yourself in Folly Beach for the day, check out Loggerhead’s Beach Grill for live music, exquisite lunch, and drinks. Loggerhead’s welcomes their guests into their laid-back, family-friendly atmosphere with fresh seafood, juicy burgers and cold cocktails. With so many more great options out there in the Charleston area, we encourage you to let us know which are your favorite that we need to check out!
